WRAPPING UP 2022
Merry Christmas, everyone!
As the busyness of the holiday season ramps up, I am trying to take a few moments to reflect on the year I’ve had before it’s almost over! I can’t believe in less than two weeks, it will be a new year (and I will have a new baby!!). The year really has flown by.
Since my last post, I released my single, “Strangers,” which had been ready to release for over a year! I cannot tell you how happy I am that this song (co-written with Aaron Pollock) was finally released to the world. Not only did I get to release the song itself, but I also made a proper music video for the release (which I loved).
The video was directed by Oliver Banyard and as usual, he took my vision and brought it to life. We decided to hire actors for the video, and I am so thankful that Tenaj Wiliams, (a long time friend of mine) played one of the lead characters. He was joined by Natasha Strickey who played his counterpart and did a fabulous job. My part was pretty easy… I sang the song several times in one place while trying to avoid the camera getting a view of my baby bump. Fun Fact: the shots of me in the video were actually filmed in my own basement! Can you tell? Take a look at the video here!
We had no fun making this music video at all…
Overall, this year has been a whirlwind. I released my first EP, performed live shows for the first time in several years, traveled to Ontario to perform at Boots & Hearts, released my first song from my second EP, and recently found out I’ve been nominated for four Country Music Alberta Awards (wow!).
When I became a mom, I was originally a bit worried that I wouldn’t be able to create, release, and promote my music while at the same time, be a present, engaged, and attentive mother. However, I have been absolutely delighted this past year at the balance I’ve been able to establish in both my personal and professional life (thanks to my incredible team!!)
For those who don’t know about what goes on behind the scenes of my music career, my team is small but mighty! The two main players are my manager, Mel, and my husband Spencer. Mel works day in and day out to stay on top of everything related to my career - live shows, publicity opportunities, grant applications, award nominations - this list goes on and on. I could NOT do this without her. Meanwhile, Spencer turns my musical dreams to reality and is always encouraging me to create, record, and release music. I am so thankful for both of them and can’t wait to see what we do together next year!
As the end of the year approaches (and the due date for Baby #2 gets closer and closer…), I want to say thank you to all of you that have supported my music this past year. It is so special to know that as my life changes, you are along for the ride, eagerly waiting for new music and updates on my life. I feel so blessed in all areas of my life and look forward to making more memories in 2023!!
